FAQs

WHAT SIZE AM I?

Blue Fish sizing is uniquely ours and was developed to fit many body types comfortably. Here is the Blue Fish size chart and its traditional size equivalent:

00 – only available in select styles. fits up to size 6

0 – fits up to size 10

1 – fits ups to size 16

2 – fits up to size 22

3 – only available in our studio tees & some tunics. fits up to size 26

O/S – one size that fits most customers

Remember, you might wear a combination of sizes depending on your body shape and how you prefer the drape of your clothes. For instance, you might wear a size 0 pants and a size 1 top.

We provide measurements for each style so you can find the best fit for the way you like to wear your Blue Fish. Remember that each style is unique & has different measurements--please check the size chart on your item of interest for exact measurements!

WHAT TYPE OF FABRIC DO YOU USE IN YOUR CLOTHING?

Blue Fish is made with natural fibers – organically grown cotton jersey, hemp, linen, silk, cotton denim, cotton stretch and tencel/rayon blends.

We are always searching for innovative earth friendly fabrics to create our designs, so we will continue to add new natural fibers to our ever-changing collections.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY BLUE FISH PIECES?

Each printed item is heat pressed for long term wear. These paints will not wash out and are permanent, with the right care.

WASHING:

Do colors bleed?
We garment dye our clothes. In other words, they are dyed after they are sewn. Neither the dye nor the paints should bleed during wear or washing if properly cared for.

How durable are the clothes?
Blue Fish clothing is designed to be worn often and last a long time.  some customers have Blue Fish from 25 years ago that is still going strong. The quality of our fabric and the craftsmanship makes for clothing that will last.

Can I wash my printed clothing?
Yes! Machine wash gentle or hand wash using a mild laundry soap (preferably organic).  Do not use soap that contains bleaching agents or color enhancers as they could affect the color of your piece. We have also found powdered soaps to be abrasive and will therefore cause more fabric fade. Laundering your printed pieces inside out will help to preserve your prints and keep your Blue Fish looking like new much longer.

DRYING:

Most of the fabrics and styles in our collections may be dried on a low or tumble dry setting for about 15 to 20 minutes and then hung or laid flat to finish drying.

All garments are preshrunk.

If you hang your pieces outside to dry please be sure to dry them in the shade to avoid fading from the sun. We have found that at least a little time in the dryer enhances the softness of the pieces and will also eliminate the need to iron for most of us.

STEAMING:

When necessary, we prefer to steam our styles to remove wrinkles. Steaming the garments gives a softer appearance. Ironing gives the styles a crisper look.

IRONING:

If you choose to iron your pieces, we recommend that you iron inside out on a low temperature setting.

BUTTONS:

We recommend wrapping our artisan made ceramic buttons in aluminum foil before washing and drying to prevent breakage.

CAN I REQUEST CUSTOM PRINTED CLOTHES?

At this time, we are not currently offering custom printed items (although we hope to in the future!).

HOW DO YOU WEAR THESE CLOTHES?

We have 3 ways of thinking about our styles:

In full bloom – layered looks with mix and match prints.
The centerpiece – Unprinted styles worn with one showstopping printed style.
Keep it simple –Use our layer tees and tanks on their own for a clean look.

You can read our Lagenlook style guide here for more tips on how to achieve this "layered look," but there are no rules with our clothes… let your imagination run free!

HOW DO YOU PRINT YOUR CLOTHES?

Our clothes are screen printed by hand by a team of artisans. For every collection, a new palette of color & grouping of print screens are developed. Then, the artisans of Blue Fish, each embodying our creative spirit for composition, begin to create one-of-a-kind pieces that you'll enjoy wearing for years to come.
